Main page Analytics, IIAwards

As part of the recently announced IIAwards, in which we celebrate innovations in the fintech and crypto industry, today we bring you Steemit.

Summary

Established by developer Dan Larimer in July 2016, Steemit is a blockchain-based blogging and social media site. Unlike other blogs, Steemit rewards its users with the cryptocurrency STEEM whenever they create and publish original content.

Ease of Use/Accessibility - (2/5)

Suffering from a haphazard, word-heavy display, Steemit’s website is unwieldy and messy. Without designated categories and sections, the search function is basically impractical. Comparable to the bulky layout of Medium, Steemit is a site that seriously needs to reconsider its presentation and organization.

Outreach - (2/5)

Steemit’s current engagement figures are relatively small when compared with other more time-honored websites. As things stand, the cryptocurrency community currently attracts a modest 216 subscribers to its page. Contributions are sporadic and spotty, with recent posts barely receiving any community engagement whatsoever. In essence, Steemit is ultimately suffering from a lack of traffic, and consequently, a shortfall in audience engagement is an unsurprising result.

Breadth of Content - (2/5)

At first glance, Steemit’s forum has a breadth of content available on its site. When delving a little deeper, the value and extent of this information is significantly undermined by the fact that most (if not all) posts are mere hyperlinks to other webpages. Ultimately, Steemit may serve as a handy tool to point you in the right direction, but nothing more.

Educational Tools/Resources - (1/5)

Of all the misgivings one could have about Steemit, the virtual non-existence of educational resources is by far its most disappointing. A distinct lack of anything scholastic makes this site useless for those looking to bolster and improve their understanding of cryptocurrencies and how they operate.

Credibility & Sourcing - (2/5)

Of the 216 subscribers linked to Steemit, only a handful cite or provide links to associated websites where credentials can be found. Like Reddit, this is a site that is wholly and totally public. Consequently, Steemit is something of a mixed bag when it comes to the credibility of the information provided, though this shouldn’t necessarily matter when the vast majority of posts are simply links that redirect to other pages.
