Sony Bank is taking steps to launch a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar in the United States, with the aim of launching it in fiscal year 2026, according to a report by Nikkei.
The Sony Financial Group subsidiary plans to set up a US-based unit to manage the business and has already applied for a US banking license.

To accelerate development, Sony Bank has teamed up with Bastion, an established US stablecoin issuer, to leverage its infrastructure.
The main goal is to integrate the stablecoin into Sony's vast entertainment ecosystem.
The company expects US customers to use it to pay for video games, anime, subscriptions, and other digital content.
