The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has omitted a specific focus on the cryptocurrency sector from its official examination priorities for 2026, marking a notable change from previous years.

The SEC's annual statement from the Division of Examinations, released on Monday, outlines key areas such as fiduciary duty, data privacy, and asset custody, but does not include a separate section on digital assets.

This change marks a departure from the previous administration's focus, which had emphasized the risks of the cryptocurrency industry.

Under current leadership, the SEC appears to be downplaying explicit scrutiny of crypto companies. Although the list of priorities is not exhaustive, the industry is likely to view this omission as a significant and encouraging policy shift.
