President Nayib Bukele has announced that El Salvador has purchased an additional 21 Bitcoins, worth approximately $2.3 million, to celebrate the fourth anniversary of the adoption of the cryptocurrency as legal tender.

This brings the country's total reserves to 6,313 BTC, valued at around $701.8 million.

The purchase follows recent security measures, including the division of the national holdings into several addresses to protect against quantum computing threats.

However, it appears to contradict an official statement made to the IMF in July, which stated that BTC acquisitions by the public sector had ceased in February, in accordance with a loan agreement.
