The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has begun reviewing BlackRock's proposal to incorporate staking into its Ethereum exchange-traded fund (ETF).
In a filing on Tuesday, the SEC requested public comments on the proposed regulatory change to the iShares Ethereum Trust, a key step in its evaluation process.
The move follows similar proposals from other asset managers, such as 21Shares and Grayscale.
The SEC's Division of Corporate Finance previously indicated in May that some blockchain staking activities may not constitute securities offerings, a stance that some interpreted as opening the door to staking in cryptocurrency ETFs.
