Bitvavo has obtained the MiCA license from the Dutch Authority for Financial Markets (AFM), allowing it to operate throughout the European Union under the bloc's new regulatory framework.

CEO Mark Nuvelstijn has reaffirmed the company's commitment to the principles of MiCA, stating:

"We fully support the core principles of MiCAR. For a level playing field in Europe, it is essential that the rules are formulated and enforced consistently across all member states."

The license provides Bitvavo with legal clarity and operational confidence, as MiCA, which came into effect on January 1, aims to harmonize cryptocurrency regulation, prioritizing investor protection and financial stability.

Risk Director Jeetan Patel described the approval process as "rigorous but efficient" and praised the constructive collaboration with Dutch regulators.
