Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi revealed at the Bloomberg Tech Summit that the company is seriously considering integrating stablecoins into its payment systems.
"I think stablecoin is one of the more interesting instantiations of crypto that has a practical benefit other than crypto as a store of value," Khosrowshahi said, highlighting their potential to significantly reduce international transaction costs for the global private transportation giant.
Although he stressed that it is currently in the "study phase," the CEO positioned stablecoins as a "proven commodity" compared to more volatile cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin.
This is Uber's latest cryptocurrency-related initiative since 2021, when Khosrowshahi first raised the possibility of accepting digital currencies.
