The International Monetary Fund has expressed reservations about Pakistan's recent decision to devote 2,000 megawatts of electricity to Bitcoin mining and artificial intelligence operations.
This move comes during crucial negotiations for Pakistan's extended financial support program.
Announced last week, the energy initiative aims to attract cryptocurrency miners and artificial intelligence companies to set up operations in Pakistan.
However, IMF officials have reportedly asked Pakistani authorities for immediate clarification on the legal framework for cryptocurrency-related activities and the rationale behind the significant energy allocation, especially given the country's persistent energy deficit.
