On Friday, the US Treasury Department lifted sanctions imposed on Tornado Cash, a company known for making it difficult to track crypto transactions, Reuters has reported.
The Biden administration had previously accused it of helping to launder more than $7 billion for North Korea and other cybercriminals.

The Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control had blacklisted Tornado Cash back in 2022, citing its role in laundering money from cybercrime, including $455 million stolen by the Lazarus Group, a hacking group backed by the North Korean government.
Six Tornado Cash users - who used the cryptocurrency mixer to conceal the origin and recipient of transactions - filed a lawsuit against the sanctions, with financial support from Coinbase.
