US President Donald Trump has issued an executive order to establish a "Strategic Bitcoin Reserve" and a "Digital Asset Stockpile," which will initially use cryptocurrencies seized in government criminal cases.
David Sacks, White House artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency advisor, announced in a March 7 post on X that President Trump had just signed the order to establish the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve.

This reserve will be funded with Bitcoin that the federal government acquired through criminal or civil forfeiture proceedings.

In addition, a March 6 White House fact sheet stated that the order also creates a "US Digital Asset Stockpile," which Sacks said will include cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin.
