El Salvador's president, Nayib Bukele, has stated the country will continue to buy Bitcoin. Purchases will continue despite the agreement with the IMF to reduce its Bitcoin activities.

"No, it's not stopping," Bukele wrote in an X post on Tuesday. "If it didn’t stop when the world ostracized us and most 'bitcoiners' abandoned us, it won’t stop now, and it won’t stop in the future."

In December, El Salvador and the IMF reached an agreement to limit Bitcoin-related activities in exchange for a financial aid package, including a $1.4 billion loan, with the overall package expected to exceed $3.5 billion.

Previously, the IMF expressed concerns about potential risks associated with El Salvador's Bitcoin holdings, although these risks have yet to materialize.

To comply with IMF requirements, the country's Congress quickly passed amendments allowing private sector entities to decide whether or not to accept Bitcoin.
