The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), the European securities regulator, has proposed guidelines for assessing the knowledge and competence of employees of crypto asset service providers, in line with the EU's comprehensive crypto asset regulations.
On February 17, the regulator published a consultation paper soliciting feedback from interested parties to develop guidelines for assessing the knowledge of persons providing advice or information on crypto assets and services for crypto asset service providers.
These guidelines will be aligned with the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), introduced in June 2023.
The aim is to establish consistent standards for staff advising clients on crypto asset-related matters, strengthen investor protection and build confidence in cryptocurrency markets.
