According to BBC News, a UK landfill where a man is struggling to recover a lost hard drive with 8,000 Bitcoins on it is about to close.

The landfill, located in Newport, Wales, is expected to close in the 2025-26 financial year.

The council spokesperson stated that the facility has been in operation since the early 2000s and is nearing the end of its useful life.

Work is underway to close and seal the landfill within the next two years.

In addition, the municipality has obtained approval to build a solar farm on part of the site starting in August.

The hard drive in question was mistakenly dumped by the man's ex-partner in 2013 and is believed to contain 8,000 BTC, currently valued at around $768 million.
