The issuer of the Tether stablecoin intends to integrate its USDT token into the Lightning Network.

This integration is made possible with the support of Taproot Assets, a network that enables interoperability between stablecoins and other Bitcoin network assets.

Taproot Assets is being developed by Lightning Labs, the same company behind the development of the Bitcoin-based payment protocol Lightning Network.

According to Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino, this move to enable USDT on the Lightning Network not only reinforces Bitcoin's fundamental principles of decentralization and security, but also provides practical solutions for remittances, payments and other financial applications that require speed and reliability.

This addition to the Bitcoin network follows Tether's expansion to other networks such as Celo, The Open Network (TON) and Aptos.
