The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is currently debating whether to investigate the legality of Crypto.com's futures contracts that allow betting on American football games, including the upcoming Super Bowl.

The five CFTC commissioners will vote on whether to subject the contracts to a 90-day review to determine whether they violate gambling laws.

While the agency cannot immediately halt trading in these contracts, the review process will likely conclude after the Super Bowl on Feb. 9, at which time the CFTC may choose to ban them.

On December 19, Crypto.com duly notified the CFTC that it would begin offering these contracts on December 23.
