World (Worldcoin) has just announced that 10 million human beings have been verified in its digital identity network.
This network uses a system of "orbs" to collect biometric data and establish proof of personality.
Worldcoin argues that personality proofing is crucial in the face of rapidly developing AI, which poses a threat to the reliability of information and intellectual property rights.
The World team said:
"As AI agents evolve, proof of human will likely provide the cornerstone for enabling ethical and scalable AI, ensuring humans remain empowered creators in a world increasingly shaped by intelligent machines."
Notably, Worldcoin has faced considerable legal scrutiny and has been ordered to cease operations by state regulators in multiple jurisdictions.
