The derivatives division of cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex has announced it has obtained a Digital Asset Service Provider (DASP) license to operate in El Salvador.

This license allows the company to move its operations from Seychelles to the Central American country, it said in a press release on January 7.

Paolo Ardoino, chief technology officer of Bitfinex Derivatives, has emphasized the importance of this approval, calling it a "defining moment" for the company and highlighting El Salvador's growing position as a global financial center.

In April, Bitfinex Derivatives obtained a local DASP license after El Salvador passed its Digital Asset Securities Law in January 2023.
