Anchorage Digital has announced that its subsidiary has received a BitLicense from the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS).

The company stated on December 16 that the license has been granted to its New York branch, which will allow it to provide services beginning in 2025.

The license will enable "regulated and efficient crypto trading to clients based in New York," Nathan McCauley, the company's CEO, has said.

The NYDFS website currently does not list Anchorage among its approved entities in the state, although 33 companies have been approved to offer crypto services since the BitLicense scheme was implemented in 2015.

Although some have criticized the BitLicense restrictions, companies such as Circle, Coinbase and Gemini are currently operating in New York under the scheme.
