The US government has taken legal action in an effort to recover more than $2.67 million in digital assets that were stolen by the North Korean hacking group known as Lazarus.

On October 4, 2024, two legal actions were filed with the goal of seizing these funds.

According to the legal documents, the US government expects to recover approximately $1.7 million in Tether that was stolen during the 2022 Deribit hack.

The hackers successfully breached a hot wallet, and then used the Tornado Cash mixer and various Ethereum addresses to try to cover their tracks.

In addition, authorities are trying to recover some $970,000 worth of Avalanche-bridged-Bitcoin (BTC.b) that was stolen in the 2023 Lazarus attack on the Stake.com platform.
