Changpeng Zhao, former CEO and co-founder of Binance, was released from prison on Friday, two days ahead of schedule, Bloomberg has reported.

In April this year, Zhao was sentenced to four months in prison after pleading guilty last year to failing to maintain an adequate anti-money laundering program.

Along with his prison sentence, Zhao was also fined $50 million, and Binance agreed to pay $4.3 billion, making it one of the largest corporate settlements in history.

The US Department of Justice had initially sought a much longer prison sentence of 36 months, alleging that Zhao knowingly disregarded the laws for his own and the company's benefit.

However, Zhao's lawyers argued Zhao had acknowledged his misconduct and expressed deep remorse, so they asked for probation instead.
