BitMEX Pleads Guilty to Violating US Bank Secrecy Act

According to a statement from the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, crypto exchange BitMEX has pleaded guilty to violating the Bank Secrecy Act.

This comes after authorities found that BitMEX had deliberately failed to establish and maintain an adequate anti-money laundering program.

The company's founders and an employee have also admitted to operating in the United States without an adequate anti-money laundering program, as required by federal law.

BitMEX has faced legal trouble in the US since at least 2022, with individuals associated with the company convicted of violating the Bank Secrecy Act.

US Attorney Damian Williams has noted the need for crypto companies to comply with US law to protect the integrity of the financial system.
