According to a press release published in PR Times, Japanese multi-industry company Sony is preparing to launch a cryptocurrency exchange by rebranding and upgrading WhaleFin, a local trading platform it acquired last year.

The rebranded entity, S.BLOX Co. intends to collaborate with other Sony Group companies to increase the value of its cryptocurrency exchange services.

The revamp will also include the introduction of a new user interface and a more user-friendly mobile app, the statement said. However, a specific date for the launch of S.BLOX has not yet been announced.

S.BLOX was formerly known as DeCurret, a Japanese crypto exchange platform that was initially acquired by Singapore's Amber Group back in 2022. In 2023, Sony subsidiary Quetta Web Co took over the platform, as mentioned in a 2022 press release.

Sony has actively expanded its presence in the Web3 sector.
