The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has delayed its potential decision on the spot Ethereum ETF application filed by Franklin Templeton.

According to an April 23 notice, the regulator has extended the deadline to approve or reject the proposed rule change that would allow Cboe BZX Exchange to list and trade shares of the Franklin Ethereum Trust.

The commission now has until June 11 to make a decision on the spot ETH ETF.

Many experts had predicted the SEC would make its final decision on whether to approve or reject a spot Ethereum ETF for listing and trading on US exchanges in May, as there are applications from multiple asset managers with upcoming deadlines.

While some believed the commission would follow the lead of approving Bitcoin ETFs with a spot ETH ETF, reports have suggested it may be attempting to classify Ethereum as a security.
