The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has delayed its decision on whether to approve the NYSE's proposal to offer options trading for spot ETFs.

This delay, described in a document filed April 8, will affect options trading for the Bitwise Bitcoin ETF (BITB), the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) and any other funds holding Bitcoin on the NYSE.

The regulator has stated it needs more time to consider the proposed rule change, and has therefore designated a longer period within which to take action. The new deadline for the SEC to approve, deny or delay the proposed NYSE rule change is next May 29.

The decision follows a similar outcome for Nasdaq last month, as it also requested options trading for BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT).
