Coinbase is taking steps toward adding Bitcoin's Lightning network payments to its platform through a new partnership with Lightspark, a Lightning solution led by former PayPal CEO David Marcus.

According to Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, the layer 2 network integration will happen soon and will allow its 108 million users to use potentially faster and cheaper Bitcoin transactions.

The move will help alleviate the recent increase in fees on the Bitcoin network's base layer.

Although Armstrong confirmed the integration last September, no details have been provided on when and how it will occur.

Lightspark, which was founded in 2022, has been working to simplify the process of implementing and managing a Lightning node in order to facilitate reliable transactions.
