The Solana network has experienced a surge in activity over the weekend, reaching a total transaction volume of $3.52 billion and surpassing the Ethereum network.
This was due to the run on Solana-based memecoins, which caused the network to struggle to handle the influx of transactions.
Many users reported frequent instances of failed transactions during this period.
On March 16 at 8 pm UTC, about 50% of transactions failed for approximately 20 minutes.
This spike in activity was mainly due to the popularity of new memecoins, such as Book of Meme (BOME) and $NAP (NAP).
