South Korea's Personal Information Protection Commission has launched an investigation into Worldcoin following numerous complaints about the project's collection of personal information.

In a press release on Monday, the commission stated it will thoroughly examine how Worldcoin collects, handles and potentially transfers sensitive personal data.

It also stated that if any violations of local privacy regulations are discovered, it will take appropriate action against the project.

The commission has also revealed that Worldcoin has been collecting facial and iris information from participants at ten locations in South Korea since Monday.

Worldcoin, which focuses on verifying individuals' unique humannes, uses its Orb device to scan people's irises and rewards them with WLD tokens for signing up for the protocol.
