CME Group announced yesterday it intends to launch euro-denominated micro Bitcoin and Ethereum futures contracts on March 18.
The launch, which must still be approved by regulators, follows the debut of US dollar-denominated micro Bitcoin futures in May 2021 and micro Ethereum futures in December 2021.
These euro-denominated micro contracts will be a fraction of the size of their underlying assets, providing a cheaper way for investors to gain exposure to these two cryptocurrencies.
Although US dollar contracts currently dominate the crypto futures market, CME Group sees an opportunity to offer its clients additional products to hedge their exposure to Bitcoin and Ether in the second most traded fiat currency.
