The German police have seized a total of 50,000 Bitcoins valued at $2.17 billion in what they have called the most significant crypto seizure in the country's history.

According to statements by the Dresden police, "this is the most extensive seizure of bitcoins by law enforcement authorities in the Federal Republic of Germany to date."

It should be noted the investigation involved both the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and the FBI, as well as a company of computer forensic experts based in Munich.

The investigation has reportedly focused on money laundering cases in which the main suspects ran a German hacking website until 2013.

The authorities of the country have reported that the suspects have voluntarily sent the Bitcoins to official wallets provided by the BKA.
