US crypto mining firm Riot Platforms has just activated an option to buy 66,560 MicroBT mining devices through a $290.5 million transaction (excluding fees, taxes and possible adjustments).

The company has taken advantage of the agreement with the manufacturer included in a previous contract for the supply of 33,280 miners. The financial terms for the equipment purchase have remained unchanged.

The new order, amounting to 48,058 units, will reportedly consist mainly of the WhatsMiner M66S model, which was recently introduced by the company, is immersion cooled and has an energy efficiency of 18.5 J/TH.

The devices will be manufactured in the United States and will cost the company an average of about $16 per TH/s.

Deliveries will start in the second quarter of 2024.
