Gustavo Petro, president of Colombia, has become a Bitcoin owner after acquiring 100,000 satoshi valued at $39.4, former Blockstream strategic development director and JAN3 CEO Samson Moe has announced.
The Colombian president has stated:
"We are going to open several working groups in the public administration and in local communities, in cooperatives of associated workers to strengthen them with the help of new technologies."
According to him, digital assets have already "paved the way" in the world and will continue to develop.
The initiative could be the first step towards the legalization of Bitcoin by a second Latin American state after El Salvador recognized BTC as a legal means of payment in the fall of 2021.
