As reported by Reuters citing several experts in blockchain transaction analysis, Iran-backed militant groups are switching from Bitcoin to Tron to fund their activities.

The Tron network is faster and cheaper than Bitcoin. In addition, interest in this is evidenced by the increasing number of seizures of corresponding wallets by Israeli security services.

Between July 2021 and October 2023, Israel's National Bureau for Counter Terror Financing (NBCTF) froze 143 Tron wallets allegedly associated with terrorist groups.

Among these were addresses belonging to Lebanese Hezbollah, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Hamas.

Shortly after the Hamas attack, Israel announced the largest crypto seizure in its history, freezing around 600 accounts linked to Dubai Co, which Israel considers a terrorist group "due to the aid that they provide to the Hamas terrorist organization, particularly its military arm, in transferring funds on a scale of tens of millions of dollars a year."
