Microsoft has just unintentionally unveiled its plans to integrate a cryptocurrency wallet into its video game console Xbox.
As reported by Kitco citing documents posted on gaming forum Resetera, the leak occurred during the ongoing US Federal Trade Commission proceeding against Microsoft over its acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
In these documents, the tech giant released an unedited Xbox roadmap for May 2022, among other documentation.
It describes a new version of the console with an integrated crypto wallet and gyroscopic controller, as well as a hybrid cloud gaming platform, scheduled for release in 2028.
Phil Spencer, CEO of Xbox, sent an email to Microsoft employees in which he said:
"I know this is disappointing, even if many of the documents are well over a year old and our plans have evolved. I also know we all take the confidentiality of our plans and our partners’ information very seriously. This leak obviously is not us living up to that expectation."
