US cryptocurrency mining company Genesis Digital Assets (GDA) has just expanded its cryptocurrency mining capacity in Sweden with the launch of a new data center.

The facility is reportedly located in the north of the country next to the 417 MW Porjus hydroelectric power plant. The facility is expected to use clean energy from a local supplier.

Initially, the capacity of the data center is expected to be at 8 MW.

Abdumalik Mirakhmedov, co-founder and executive chairman of the company, has said:

"We aim to lead the bitcoin mining industry by setting an example for other players by minimizing our environmental impact."

The company is partnering with local contractors in order to organize and manage operations at the new facilities.

GDA currently operates 19 data centers in North America, Europe and Central Asia with a total capacity of more than 400 MW.
