Kenya Launches an Investigation into Worldcoin

The Kenyan government has just announced it has set up a committee for the purpose of a 42-day investigation into cryptocurrency project Worldcoin, local publication The Star has reported.

The committee reportedly plans to submit to the country's House of Representatives a report based on the results of its investigation.

The country's government has decided to form the committee due to the failure of Worldcoin representatives to comply with the authorities' order to stop scanning the irises of users' eyes.

At the same time, a Kenyan court has suspended Worldcoin's operations following a lawsuit by the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has previously restricted the startup's local business on a temporary basis.

Worldcoin has also faced scrutiny from regulators in other countries. Regulators in Britain, France, Germany and Argentina have taken an interest in the compliance of the collection and storage of citizens' personal information with current legislation.
