Binance.US, the US division of crypto exchange Binance, has hired former SEC compliance officer George Canellos, Bloomberg has reported.
The specialist left the SEC in 2014 after more than four years in various senior positions, and also headed the Major Crimes Section at the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York.
John Reed Stark, former head of the SEC's Office of Internet Enforcement, has said that Binance "is clearly preparing for a criminal prosecution."
He has added:
"But I doubt even Ironman, Captain America and the Hulk could get Binance out from their current perilous legal quagmire."
Last June 5, the SEC sued Binance and its CEO, Changpeng Zhao. The regulator filed 13 charges, including the sale of unregistered securities. Subsequently, the Commission filed a similar lawsuit against Coinbase.
