The number of searches for the word "cryptocurrency" has fallen to its lowest level since December 2020, according to data provided by Google Trends.
The indicator peaked at 100 points in May 2021. The countries with the most searches related to "digital assets" are the Netherlands, Nigeria and Singapore.
Request volumes started to decline starting in May last year following the collapse of the Terra ecosystem, and there was an even larger decline in November due to the collapse of cryptocurrency exchange FTX.
Coin Bureau, a crypto analyst, has suggested the negative search dynamics are correlated with a drop in crypto exchange activity, as the indicator is at 32-month lows.
However, interest has not waned in all areas of the cryptocurrency sector. Searches for "DeFi" continue to increase, and the popularity of meme tokens has peaked in early May.
