BitMEX said in a blog post on Monday its existing Hong Kong users starting from May 29 will no longer be able to access the main domain or API connections.

The exchange said it would transfer all Hong Kong clients to an affiliated Hong Kong entity, which will provide services "solely through the BitMEX Hong Kong mobile app." BitMEX's customers in Hong Kong can withdraw their assets before May 29, before the exchange will transfer the funds to BitMEX Hong Kong. The company added:

"Verified Hong Kong Users will not be required to complete any additional verification or KYC checks, but will have to use the new BitMEX Hong Kong mobile app to access the services."

BitMEX said the changes were made in order to continue providing services to Hong Kong Users during the transitional period before any license application is approved.
