The US state parliament of Texas could approve an amendment to the state law granting residents the right to use cryptos.

The amendment reportedly states that "the right of the people to own, hold, and use a mutually agreed upon medium of exchange, including cash, coin, bullion, digital currency, or privately issued scrip, when trading and contracting for goods and services shall not be infringed."

According to the document:

"No government shall prohibit or encumber the ownership or holding of any form or amount of money or other currency."

The bill, which was proposed by state deputy Giovanni Capriglione, received 139 votes in favor and two against.

The content of the document is similar to the federal Bill of Rights of American Citizens, which guarantees the protection of freedom of speech, religion and press. The state law also includes the right to a speedy trial and the right to keep and bear arms in self-defense.

Texas Constitutional Compliance Group founder Tom Glass has explained another vote is expected in the House of Representatives, then in the Senate and a "popular vote."
