Argentina's central bank has developed a document that, if approved, would result in companies associated with digital assets in Argentina facing some difficulties.

The document has reportedly been developed following IMF recommendations to limit the use of cryptos in the country.

The document's guidelines contemplate the prohibition of some activities. In particular, registered payment service providers will not be allowed to conduct transactions with digital assets on their own or with the help of partners that are not regulated and authorized by the country's central bank.

The regulator has said these guidelines have been developed with the aim of "reducing risks [...] for users of financial services and the national payment system."

Non-profit organization Bitcoin Argentina has called the guidelines "arbitrary."

Marcos Zocaro, spokesperson for the organization, has said:

"It is unclear what the central bank is trying to achieve by banning activities that are completely satisfactory and beneficial to customers of local platforms. As a result, [...] it will be difficult to access alternative savings options that will protect them from inflation."
