In a Twitter thread on Wednesday, Circle said the solution removes the need to bridge the stablecoin through "traditional lock-and-mint approaches."
Circle says users can now transfer USDC natively between Ethereum and Avalanche with MetaMask, as the wallet has already added support for CCTP. The company noted CCTP solves "the issues of liquidity fragmentation" by removing unofficial bridged versions of USDC.
In January 2022, Ethereum Co-Founder, Vitalik Buterin, raised concerns regarding cross-chain bridges, saying these applications have "fundamental security limits." He particularly addressed the risks of losing all the bridged funds if a 51% on-chain attack happens.
