In a blog post on Thursday, the exchange said India will speed up hiring in India to make "significant contributions" to Gemini's development. The products and features built in India location will be used by retail and institutional customers, said Pravjit Tiwana, Global CTO at Gemini.

"We are actively hiring software engineers and technical product managers to work from our Gurgaon office along with other key roles, including human resources and talent acquisition, finance, support, and compliance," he added.

The move comes after news reported that Gemini is in talks to set up a new crypto derivatives exchange overseas. As per sources close to the matter, the Winklevoss-founded crypto exchange wants to offer perpetual futures overseas as this type of financial product is banned in the US.

IHodl earlier reported that Coinbase, Gemini's rival, also secured a license in Bermuda as the industry is not seeing that regulatory clarity it needs.
