Canada's Pension Fund Writes Off $95M Investment in FTX

The Ontario Teachers Pension Plan (OTPP) with $190 billion in assets under management (AUM) has written off a $95 million investment in the now-bankrupt crypto exchange FTX.

In an interview with the Financial Times, OTPP Chief Executive, Jo Taylor, said the fund is still working through "what exactly happened there and you're going to be careful." Taylor added "it would be unwise" for the fund to rush into another crypto investment, although OTPP put less than 0.05% of its funds into the collapsed exchange.

Canada Enhances Crypto Oversight, Cites Recent 'Insolvencies'

OTPP is the third pension fund in Canada in terms of AUM. In 2021 and 2022 it made several investments in FTX International and FTX US through its venture arm called Teachers' Venture Growth fund.
