Crypto arm of Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) has unveiled a new rollup client for Optimism to boost software diversity for the Layer-2 ecosystem.

The new software dubbed Magi is expected to "encourage greater safety" throughout the Optimism sidechain. Written in Rust, the client is months of development away, the venture capital firm admitted in a blog announcement. The final product is expected to have support for tracking unconfirmed blocks to lower latency, better frameworks for testing and other features.
A16z crypto pointed out Magi would perform the same core functionality as the reference implementation and is planned to be synchronized to any Optimism stack chain, including Coinbase's Base.
