Bitcoin Miner CleanSpark Acquires 45,000 ASIC Machines for $145M

American bitcoin (EXANTE: Bitcoin) mining firm CleanSpark has expanded its mining capability with another tranche of ASIC machines.

According to a press release published on Tuesday, the Henderson-headquartered firm has acquired 45,000 units of the Antminer S19 XP bitcoin mining machines for nearly $145 million.

With the latest purchase, CleanSpark plans to double its computing power by 6.3 EH/s in addition to the company’s current hashrate of 6.7 EH/s. The ASICs are expected to be delivered before September end, and CleanSpark plans to deploy all the machines at its mining facility in Sandersville, Georgia.

Bitcoin Mining Difficulty Hits a New High

As of December 2022, CleanSpark had only 228 BTC in its holdings (down more than 95% since February 2022), according to CryptoSlate's calculations. Marathon, the largest public bitcoin mining company, held 12,232 BTC as of December last year.
