Ex-Binance.US CEO Hires Lawyer Amid CFTC Crackdown

Former Binance.US CEO, Catherine Coley, has hired James McDonald, a partner at New York law firm Sullivan & Cromwell, as the drama between the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and Binance keeps getting bigger.

According to a report by Reuters, McDonald represents Coley as her attorney of record. It is unclear if Coley cooperated with the government investigations against Binance and its boss Changpeng Zhao, the report noted.

CFTC Files Lawsuit Against Binance, CZ

Prior to Sullivan & Cromwell, McDonald worked at the CFTC until 2020, where he was its director of enforcement. Before the CFTC, he worked in the public corruption unit of the Manhattan US attorney's office.

Coley abruptly left Binance.US in April 2021 after she'd learned Binance secretly moved $400 million from Binance.US without any prior notice to a trading firm owned by Zhao.
