Epic's Sweeney Says Gaming Industry Suffers from Blockchain Hype

Epic Games CEO, Tim Sweeney, says a serious threat for the gaming industry is on the horizon as "a whole generation" of computer scientists leave the area in favor of crypto and blockchain.

In a recent interview with IGN, Sweeney said there can't be truly revolutionary game experiences until the best minds find crypto more financially attractive. He said:

"There's been a lot of neglect, as everybody's going off...we're missing a generation of computer scientists who would traditionally be pushing forward that set."

Without revealing much of the details, Sweeney said Epic Games has established a research team to explore new genres of games that will emerge from the technologies that are "just in the pipeline being built right now."
