According to analysts at analyst firm Dune, the total supply of BTC by the US authorities amounts to 205,515 BTC (about $5.6 billion), which represents more than 1% of the asset's supply and makes the US government "one of the largest Bitcoin whales."
Since 2020, the US Department of Justice has seized around 215,000 BTC related to criminal activity, including 69,370 BTC associated with the darknet marketplace Silk Road, 94,643 BTC from the couple involved in the Bitfinex hack and 51,326 BTC from Silk Road hacker James Zhong.

According to Dune, this is a "lower-bound estimation" based on publicly available information.
Analytics firm PeckShield has previously recorded the movement of 48,998 BTC from US government wallets. In particular, 30,174 BTC and 8,999 BTC were sent two new addresses, and another 9,825 BTC were sent to US cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase.
