Ethereum layer-2 sidechain Arbitrum will airdrop 1 billion ARB tokens among community members starting from March 23.

The Arbitrum Foundation said in a press release on Thursday the airdrop would decentralize the network, shifting the ecosystem into the decentralized autonomous organization. The foundation noted the majority of the tokens would be under the control of the Arbitrum community via the foundation.
The so-called Arbitrum DAO will be responsible for making key decisions at the core protocol level. Users could vote for the initiatives with their ABR tokens, which would function as a governance tool. Despite the distribution, Offchain Labs, the firm that made the sidechain, will still have control over 44% of the token's supply.
