Meta's new upcoming layoffs will likely hit the company's metaverse department Reality Labs as the firm seeks to optimize its organizational structure.

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, the Menlo Park-headquartered company is planning to cut the same proportion of staff it did last November, when it laid off 11,000 employees.

Sources close to the matter added that the first wave of the layoffs is expected to be announced next week, and will hit non-engineering positions. Among projects, which are expected to be closed are some "wearable devices" for metaverse developed at Reality Labs, the report says. The name of the project and its details remain undisclosed.

In November 2022, Meta announced a massive round of layoffs, cutting 13% of its workforce (11,000 employees). Meta's Mark Zuckerberg said in a letter to employees the layoffs were made across departments and regions, including recruiting and business teams.
